A pecan is a nut that was always a favorite. I grew up with an abundance of pecans. We would actually pick pecans from the pecan tree and crack and eat them right away! Today they are so easily available in your local grocery store. However, they are quite expensive. If you have ever cracked and peeled pecans, I can imagine why they are so expensive. That’s one of the reasons I’d like to share my recipe for homemade glazed pecans. Why pay for glazed pecans when you can easily make them at home!
There are so many uses for glazed pecans. I’m quite a fan of glazed pecans sprinkled in my salads; but glazed pecans are also great as a garnishment on pound cakes, hummingbird cakes with cream cheese frosting sprinkled with glazed pecans or even banana cake with a spiced cream cheese frosting topped with a generous heaping of glazed pecans. Recipe adapted from a Glazed Pecans recipe by Genius Kitchen
Homemade Glazed Pecans
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 2 tsp salted butter
- 2 tsp light corn syrup
- Combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt in a large skillet
- Stir over medium heat until the butter is melted
- Add pecans and stir constantly covering pecans with the syrup for 7 minutes.
- Make sure that pecans are covered with the syrup
- Spread pecans in a single layer onto parchment paper and pour remaining syrup over pecans.
- Make sure that pecans are spread apart from one another so that they can set without sticking together.
Allow the glazed pecans to cool completely.
Use them immediately or store in an airtight container.
Cinnamon Candied Pecans – add 1 tsp cinnamon
Roasted – move parchment paper to a baking pan and bake for 5 minutes at 400 degrees
Allow to cool completely before use.
Candied nuts – replace pecans for other types of nuts
