Two Simple Buttermilk Recipes to Make at Home
Have you ever been ready to bake then realized you’re missing a key ingredient? Buttermilk is one of those key ingredients that really enhances cake flavor and texture. Since I’ve run out of buttermilk on more than one occasion, I thought I’d share two quick and easy homemade buttermilk recipes I’ve used.
These are simple recipes made with ingredients you’re almost guaranteed to have in your house already! Each recipe will make about a cup of buttermilk, which is perfect for many cake recipes.
Two simple recipes for making Buttermilk at Home
Buttermilk Recipe #1: Using Lemon Juice
1 cup milk
1 TBSP Lemon Juice
Pour one cup of milk
Stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
Let the mixture sit on the countertop for about 10 minutes.
Notice that the milk is somewhat curdled. That means it’s ready!

Buttermilk Recipe #2: Using Vinegar
1 cup milk
1 TBSP Vinegar
Pour one cup of milk
Stir in 1 tablespoon of vinegar
Let the mixture sit on the countertop for about 10 minutes.
Notice that the milk is somewhat curdled.
Congratulations, you now have buttermilk!
